About Our Pastor
Sunday, July 1st, 2018, Pastor Raquel Mull officially joined us as our pastor. Here is some additional background information about Pastor Mull: “Ya’at’eeh. I am Raquel Mull, born for Tobacco People and born to Salt of the Dine nation. I was raised off reservation after Don and Helen Peterson adopted me and my brother, Dirk. I spent most of my early life in Santa Fe and Albuquerque. When I answered the call to ministry, I felt like the Grinch who suddenly learned the meaning of Christmas and his heart escaped from a cage. My heart did that when I was challenged, “if you think you can do better, why don’t you?” and I answered, “Yes, I will” I married Craig R. Mull on November 30, 1996 after meeting at Perkins School of Theology where we were enrolled in Course of Study (CoSS). We transferred to Duke University where we both finished the Basic course and then I completed the Advanced CoSS. I earned my Bachelors from University of New Mexico with a double major in English and Philosophy. I achieved my Master of Divinity from the IIiff School of Theology. I have two children, Erik and Tamara. Tamara and her husband Scott Maass blessed us with two granddaughters, Rylie and Taylor. Grandparenthood is one of the best roles! The girls call us Shimmy and Hosteen and we love being a part of their family. I began my ministry at Grandfalls Union and Imperial UMC in 1996. I have had my successes and failures and learned from all of them. After serving as Director of Four Corners Native American Ministry, I am very excited to be returning to the local church. At the beginning of this journey, I said I would remain in this Conference and here I am.” [Excerpted from the June 14, 2018 program of “Ordination of Elders, Recognition of Orders, and Commissioning of a Missionary.’] |
Advent 2023
Introduction:
Christmas is just around the corner!! What emotions do you feel when you hear this phrase? Fear? Rushed? Impatient? Joyful? Scared? Put upon? Alone? Inadequate? Overextended? I will admit I have felt all of the above, but the joyful part is a titch sketchy. I generally feel joy on Christmas morning, when I accept I have done what I have done and really can’t change too much, now. So sit back and remember the first Christmas morn so many years ago. As a mom whose child was born on Christmas Day, I remember some the aforementioned emotions as I anticipated the birth of my child. I believe Mary also felt some of these emotions so using a book on expecting and delivering, I will examine some of these emotions as we prepare to remember the birth of our Savior. The emotions are not gender specific so I pray the males in our midst do not feel excluded. Through Advent, the 24 days before Christmas, and then Christmas morning, I invite you to join me in recovering some of the joy as we journey to Christmas together. We can admit our feelings and intentionally trust we will find the grace and the joy of this season.
